Mafia leader from Rechytsa arrested near the site for future nuclear plant
Police in the Mahilyou region arrested Syarhei Shumanski, the 37-year-old leader of the local criminal ring after two years of search. He was found in the village of Krasnapolle where he lived under a fake ID, reports Belta.
Krasnapolle is picked as one of the site where Belarus's first nuclear power plant might be built. Theoretically, Shumanski might potetially find emloyment there.
In October 2007, the police busted most of the criminal leaders and thugs. They were tried and sentenced to various prison terms ranging from 7 to 23 years. Shumanski was one of the mafia leaders who escaped his arrest.
