Makei to represent Belarus instead of Lukashenka at Riga summit
The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported the news to Euroradio.
Belarusian Minister for Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei will represent Belarus at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has decided not to go there and not to send PM Andrei Kabyakou to Riga either. Belarusian MFA press secretary Dzmitry Mironchyk told Euroradio:
"Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei will represent Belarus at the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga.”
The EaP summit ill be held in Riga on May 21-22. Uladzimir Makei also represented Belarus at the EaP summit in the autumn of 2013.
President Serzh Sargsyan will represent Armenia, President Ilham Aliyev – Azerbaijan, President Petro Poroshenko – Ukraine, President Nicolae Timofti – Moldova and PM Irakli Garibashvili – Georgia.
The visa regime facilitation agreement for Belarus and the EU will not be initialed in Riga, Latvia MFA press secretary Andreis Pildegovics told tut.by. The document will eb discussed and signed in mid-June (by the end of Latvia’s presidency in the EU).
