Makey: Russia remains strategic partner for Belarus

Belarus has and will consider consider Russia as a strategic partner, Belarus Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey said today in Moscow at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, BelTA reports.

"Recently, in the media appeared rumors that someone is changing foreign policy vectors. We have considered and do consider Russia as our strategic partner, with which we have a close relationship in the framework of the Union State, and shall abide by all the agreements reached," said Makey.

According to the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, due to the complex situation in the world, in the Moscow talks he discussed with his Russian counterpart the issues of bilateral cooperation and interaction in the international arena.

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, expressed gratitude to Belarus for assistance in resolving the Ukrainian crisis and the organization of the tripartite contact group. He stated this at a briefing after the talks in Moscow.

Mr Lavrov noted that Belarus and Russia had developed intensive contacts at all levels and the two countries are linked by "a truly allied relations." He also assured that, even after the launch of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Union State remains an important integration association, which serves as a "training ground for running the integration process."
