Martsau: Moscow and Brussels will support not a candidate, but democratic elections
The European Union is not going to support a sole candidate at the upcoming Presidential elections in Belarus. Brussels is interested not in a person, but in demoraratic and transparent elections. This was stated by Piotr Martsau in his interview to the European Radio for Belarus. This was the way he commented the meeting between Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu and the European Parliament President Erzy Buzek at the Economic Forum in Poland. Martsau: "I don't think Russia, the USA or Brussels will support a specific candidate. They are more likely to support a specific situation. Russia, and the European Union, and the USA will insist on transparent elections and democratic process. Their aim is democratization of Belarus, not getting a concrete politician to power".
The expert underlined that the candidate would become known after collecting signatures, but doubted there would be a sole candidate.
Let us remind you that Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu stated he counted on the support of both Europe and Russia, upon the results of his meeting with Jerzy Buzek.
