Medvedev to be told about violations of human rights in Belarus

Russian human rights activists informed about this at the press-conference in Minsk. The member of the Russian President's council for assistance to development of civil society and human rights Siarhej Kryvenka and the head of the long-term observation mission, the expert of the Council of Europe Andrej Jurau took part in the conference.   The mission was established on December 27, 2010 and has worked for just several days so far. According to the human rights activists, the importance of the mission has considerably increased after closing of the OSCE office in Belarus. The human rights activists have recorded many facts of violations of human rights and international standards. In particular, they mentioned that searches were conducted not in the framework of any criminal cases, that prisoners were not granted medical help etc.

Kryvenka stated that he would convey all these facts to the Russian President's authorised commissioner on human rights Lukin. He will also file a corresponding report to Dmitry Medvedev. According to Kryvenka, the Russian leader is interested in such information as he closely watches the situation in Belarus, and there will definitely be a reaction from his side to the direction of the Belarusian authorities after this report, at least a soft one.
