Meteo chief: Acid phosphorous rain expected to fall out on Belarus
The air fronts, containing the products of the burning phosphorous after the train accident in Ukraine's Lviv region, are pushing towards Belarus, Ukraine's Hydro-Meteo-Center chief Mikalaj Kulbida told the European Radio for Belarus. Yet, it is still unclear what this cloud looks like.
Kulbida: “In physical terms, nobody is monitoring this cloud. It is hard to identify its location. Probably, it is somewhere at the border between the Rovno and Volyn regions of Ukraine. Perhaps, it has already fallen out. The wind is very weak at the neighboring districts with Belarus. It does not look like rain, either. The skies are presently clear”.
But the Belarusian weather monitors say that it is rainy in Ukraine. The forecast has been detailed by the chief of weather forecast department Dzmitry Rabau:
“We are expecting rains in the south of the country. For instance, there will be rainy and occasional thunderstorms in the Homel region in the next several days. So far, we are expecting just mild summer rains”.
But toxic phosphorous products will also fall out. Dzmitry Rabau continues:
Rabau: “A phosphorous chemical rain will fall out. This is dangerous, because when phospohorous gets accumulated in the body, it affects liver, kidneys and other organs. If it falls out on the soil, all the plants will be totally burnt out”.
At the same time, the chief of the Belarusian hydrometeocenter says the cloud has not reached Belarus, according to the latest weather reports. There is no danger for Belarus. People can enjoy their time without fears, he said.
Meanwhile, sanitary experts in Ukraine are moving around with makeshift labs in the Volyn and Rovno regions to take samples of soil and air.
