Minsk Roman Catholic Diocese marks 210th anniversary
The Minsk Roman Catholic Diocese was founded on January 28, 1798. It was an administrative unit of the Roman Catholic Church in the late 18th century through 20th century.
The territory of the Diocese coincided with the border of the Minsk region.Yakau Dederka was the first bishop. Under Dederka, Pope Piy VI sent the remains of St Feliciant to Minsk.
The diocese was abolition in 1869, and the territory was included into the Vilnius Roman Catholic Diocese. In November 1917, the operation of the Minsk Diocese was restored.
In 1991, the Minsk-Mahilyou Roman Catholic Diocese was founded to succeed the Minsk and Mahilyou dioceses. Since 2000, it covers the territories of the Minsk and Mahilyou regions, reports Belta.
