Monument to priest tortured by communists installed in Sharkaushchyna
Kanstantsin Zhdanau was murdered in 1919.
A monument to Orthodox priest Kanstantsin Zhdanau was opened in Sharkaushchyna on April 29. He was tortured and murdered by Bolsheviks in 1919.
Divine services were held in two churches and then two cross processions headed for one another. They met in the central square of Sharkaushchyna and reached the spot where the monument to the priest had been installed.
The monument was opened by Polatsk and Hlybokaye archbishop Feadosi and head of Sharkaushchyna District Mikalai Bahovich. The archbishop reminded believers that there were tiles laid by father Kanstantsin near Sharkaushchyna church.
By the way, both church and secular speakers tried not to focus on the fact that the priest had been tortured by the new communist government.
The Orthodox Church canonized father Kanstantsin in 2011.
