The Olympic gold medal which was sold by freestyler Alyaksei Hryshyn will return to Belarus. According to the website insidethegames.biz with reference to the executive vice-president of the auction Bobby Livingstone, at the auction in Boston it was bought by a collector from our country who was not named. Livingstone recalled that the Belarusian athlete sold the medal to help his close friend pay for the operation.
"We are happy that the medal will return to Belarus," said the executive vice-president of the auction. "It was a win-win situation for all the parties".
As Euroradio reported earlier, Hryshyn sold the Vancouver 2020 Olympics gold (the first golden award of Belarus at the Winter Olympics) and bronze of the Salt Lake City 2002. The first medal was sold for almost $69,000, the second one -- for $28,400.
Even before the auction, the freestyler said that for him "life is more important than a medal", as "the medal is only metal".
