Opposition activist in Vitsebsk sentenced to 7 days of arrest
Opposition activist Taras Surgan from Vitsebsk has been sentenced to seven days of the administrative arrest, his fiancee Vika Savina told Belapan news agency. Surgan told judges that he was detained on January 9 when he came out of his apartment together with his fiancee to dispose of waste. Shortly after, unknown people in plain clothes ran up to him and proposed "to talk and sit into the car"".
While at the police, Surgan was charged with petty hooliganizm. According to the police officers who acted like witnesses during the hearing, Taras was cursing and thus violated the public order.
Taras Surgan is a friend to Siarhei Kavalenka who put the national flag on top of the Christmas tree on the central square of Vitsbesk.
