Opposition activists plan to stage 64 social pickets in Brest

Local opposition avtivists have filed 64 applications with the Brest City Hall, seeking to stage pickets against the abolition of social benefits.

Valyantsin Lazarenkau, the chairman of the regional organization of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) told the Belapan news agency that the applications were filed on behalf of the activists with the regional coalition of the United Pro-Democracy Forces.

If the local authorities deny permits to stage the pickets, the activists will use other means in order to inform the residents of the regional center about the present condition of the social sector in this country, he said.
