Opposition peaceful action dispersed in Minsk
Police today dispersed an opposition action in Minsk when activists gathered to mark 20 years since Belarus declared its independence. Several participants were detained, reports Belapan. Some 30 people gathered on Yakub Kolas Square in central Minsk. After laying flowers to the Yakub Kolas monument, they were approached by five police officers who warned about responsibility for staging an unauthorized event. The activists had to leave the square, but police prevented them from reaching the next stop of the action -- Yanka Kupala monument also in downtown Minsk.
