Orthodox church calls on state to fight abortion
The Belarusian Christian Church is of opinion that mass abortions is a demographic threat to this country, Metropolitan Filareth told Alexander Lukashenka during today's meeting. He said that "the worsening of a demographic problem is mainly caused by the fake moral and religious values, thus leading to the degradation of the society".
Filareth's spokesman Andrei Petrashkevich commented to the European Radio for Belarus on how the church is going to implement this policy. He said:
"Any statement envisages radical measures. In this case, he simply raised a problem. The implementation of this policy should lie in a joint effort of the church and the state in sensitizing the future mothers and doctors about the problem of whether they should resort to abortion or keep their child alive".
