Private newspaper removed from kiosks in Nyasvizh
NYASVIZH, Minsk Region -- The local branch of the state-run press distribution monopoly Minskablsayuzdruk has refused to sell the non-state newspaper Nyasvizhski Chas effective from the New Year. The newspaper has had no problem with the state-run kiosks for over five years, with some 300 copies of the newspaper routinely sold within few days. But the distribution monopoly refused to extend the contract for 2008, citing "orders from the top" and saying they have no formal problems with the publisher.
The editorial staff of the newspaper will now have to act as street vendors and distributors.
