Public activists push for local referendum in Hrodna
A referendum on the reconstruction of the Old Town is being prepared in the western city of Hrodna, our correspondent reports.
“The local intellectuals today issued a statement, announcing the establishment of a nomination group to organize a local referendum. According to the organizers, they want to raise the issues associated with the "reconstruction" of the Old Town in Hrodna. Necessary paperwork is being drafted and is soon to be filed with the authorities.
Famous historians, writers, public and political figures are spearheading the action. According to Pavel Mazeika, a famous journalist and one of those proposing the referendum, there is a need to discuss publicly the so called "reconstruction".
