Public transport will be fully electric in the major cities of Belarus, Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environment Protection Aliaksandr Korbut told reporters on 23 September in Minsk.

Work is underway to develop a comprehensive program to replace all public transport buses with electric vehicles - e-buses or trolley buses.

"Belarus has set the development of electric transport as a national priority," Mr Korbut is quoted by the state news agency BELTA as saying.

The Minsk-based public transport manufacturer Belkommunmash is developing a new electric bus model in line with the EU standards, which it plans to sell to the European bloc.

As of today, there are 83 electric buses made by this company running in Minsk and other Belarusian cities.
