The deputy PM has made a report about the economic situation for senators and MPs today.
Deputy PM Pyatro Prakapovich has made a report about the economic situation in Belarus at a joint meeting of the Council of the Republic and House of Representatives today, on December 19. Then he talked to journalists. They asked him about the situation in the money market and possible devaluation.
Prakapovich: "Belarus is an independent state. It cannot orient on other countries’ decisions. We will not follow Russia and devaluate our national currency. It is not needed.”
A decision on the compensation for the losses suffered by Belarusian importers in connection with the devaluation of the Russian rouble will be made one of these days, Prakapovich claimed. “It will solve the economic problems and let us avoid the devaluation of the Belarusian rouble,” Prakapovich said.
Unofficial information about the devaluation of the Belarusian rouble by about 10% has appeared today. The National Bank is expected to make an official statement. There will be no devaluation in Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said yesterday.
