Rare stamp sets record at New York auction
Rare British Guiana stamp that used to cost 1 cent has been sold for $9.5 million.
This is the only remaining stamp from the set printed by the British colony in 1856 when a shipment of stamps was delayed from London.
The stamp is an octagon printed on magenta paper and bears a three-masted ship and the colony's motto, "We give and expect in return".
This is the only stamp the British Royal family’s private collection lacks, BBC notes.
