Belarus not to join Bologna Process by 2015
It has become known that “the Belarusian issue” has been removed from the agenda of the coming summit of the Ministers of Education
of the European Higher Education Area.
It will take place in Bucharest next week. To join the process, our country will have to wait for another three years, reports the website generation.by.
Belarus applied for membership in the European Higher Education Area uniting all European states but ours in December 2011. The reason for the refusal is the fact that Belarus does not stick to the terms and values of the Bologna Process like academic freedom, institutional autonomy and students’ participation in the administration of higher education.
No country has been rejected because of not suiting the criteria of the area before. Even such countries as Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan that are far from being democratic were accepted.
