"Critical Mass" cyclists' action in Minsk dispersed by riot police
A traditional bicycle action ended in detention of at least 15 people.
About 70 cyclists got together to participate in a "Critical mass" action on May 27. They were riding along the right way of the Independence Avenue. The cyclists inform the city authorities that there are no conditions for riding a bike in the capital by conducting actions like this, Radio Liberty states.
Traffic policemen stopped the cyclists near the Victory Square, and then riot policemen joined them. About 15 people were detained during this mop-up operation.
The participants of the incident wrote in their blogs, that they were fined in the police department. Those who pled guilty were fined for 35 000 roubles (1 base fee), those who claimed innocent - 105 000 (3 base fees).
