Drum Ecstasy to present Belarusian jazz at Koktebel festival
Minsk drummers to perform together with Grebenschikov, Skrypka and Parov Stelar.
One of Ukraine's key festivals “Jazz Koktebel” will take place in the settlement Koktebel in Crimea on September 15-18. More than 50 bands and musicians from all over the world will perform at 3 stages of the festival for 4 days. Although not all of them play pure jazz, it is absolutely justified to mention this style in the festival's name.
"It is very difficult to define any pure styles in the 21st century, with no accents, details, or peculiarities of some other style, – says co-producer and host of the event Yauhenia Stryzheuskaya. – Thus, I think that "Jazz Koktebel" as a modern event reflects modern world music tendencies in the first place".
Besides, only one Belarusian band will go to the fest this year. This is not because there is lack of decent musicians, Yauhenia says. Only one place was reserved for Belarusians since the very beginning.
Yauhenia Stryzheuskaya: "This was our common idea. We wanted to chose a powerful band in Belarus. We had several options but we stopped on Drum Ecstasy. We take just one band, but a very famous and professional one".
