Expert: EU-Belarus dialogue should follow political prisoners’ release
You cannot hope to release political prisoners as a result of the dialogue.
President of Slovakian Institute for Public Affairs, political scientist Grigorij Mesežnikov, has expressed his opinion about it.
Mesežnikov: “It would be better for the political prisoners to be released right now – today or tomorrow. But it is essential that the European Union should demonstrate that a long-term dialogue is impossible without internal political changes and human rights observation.”
The public will not understand European politicians if they start a dialogue with the official Minsk without the fulfillment of these terms, the expert thinks.
The conference “Dialogue with Belarusian public about modernization” was held in the European Parliament on April 9. Some EU representatives mentioned the necessity of starting a dialogue with the official Minsk.
