Lukashenka to Francis I: We'll be happy to greet you on Belarusian soil
The Belarusian head of state has greeted the newly elected Pope Francis I
In a letter sent to Vatican, Lukashenka calls the Pontiff "an experienced pastor and theologist" and wished him good health, wisdom and God's help.
"The mission of a Pontiff is also the mission of an indefatigable pilgrim, who brings the light of hope to the people, strengthening love and faith, - quotes BELTA. - I am convinced that you will go on declaring the traditional Christian values at this responsible position, the principles that make the moral basis of the humanity. I hope that the good relations between the Republic of Belarus and Vatican will only get stronger during your term as a Pontiff. We will be happy to greet you on the hospitable Belarusian land, where the relations between the Russian Orthodox believers and the catholics are full of the spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation."
