University graduates have received “luck letters” from the police right before their graduation. Young specialists are offered jobs in the security agencies regardless of their profession. Everyone will be useful, assures the commander of Minsk patrol service.

Commander: “If they are from the pedagogical university, teachers of geology or physics – it does not matter. They may be useful in the Office of Juvenile Justice. If their profession is connected with electronics, computers or electrical engineering   - it is okay, we have computers too, and we are not outdated! Of course, we cannot hire historians. But we will consider all applications”.

As Euroradio has found out, students who… paid for their education are invited to the police in the first place. The others have their assignment and have no problems finding a job. And here you get a job, a full social package and even a room in the hostel and Minsk registration! You will have to patrol the streets at first and decide if you, a teacher or a programmer, like police shoulder straps.

The wage is good at the very beginning but is it less than the country’s average wage (2.964 millions).

Commander: “It is from 2 million to 2 million 300 thousands. But this is only true on probation: we have to look at them and they need to get acquainted with us. However, the average wage is 2 million – 2 million 300 thousands. It is only during the first three or four months”.

Euroradio has looked through the web pages of many District Departments of the Interior and found many vacancies there.

Karmyany District department of the Interior has only “14 vacancies out of 88 positions”. Even the position of the senior deputy head of the department is vacant!

There are “many” vacancies in Buda-Kashalyou Department of the Interior.

Buda-Kashalyou Department of the Interior: “The positions of district police officers, driving inspectors and criminal investigators are vacant now. There are many vacancies. We have much more problems with the officership”.

The situation is not considered to be extraordinary.

Buda-Kashalyou Department of the Interior: “Our employees do not leave, they retire. These vacancies are always appearing. It is a normal situation”.

They add that they are used to dealing with the lack of staff. All over the country.

Listen to BSU students’ replies to the question: “Would you like to be a policeman?”
