Thieves steal either expensive or cheap cars, they are rarely tempted by medium cars, Interior Ministry claims.
Decrease of crimes connected with automobiles has been recorded by the Interior Ministry. This year, 419 hijackings have been registered for the first 5 months, 334 of them are already detected. 454 hijackings were registered for the same period in 2010, 1268 - for the whole year, in our country.
The number of car thefts has also decreased. 175 thefts were registered for the first 5 months of last year (380 for the whole year), and only 148 thefts have been registered for the same period this year.
According to the head of prophylactic administration of the Interior Ministry Aleh Karazej, thieves are rarely tempted by medium cars:
“They usually steal expensive cars to re-sell them, or cheap ones. According to the statistics which we receive daily, used cars produced in the 90s usually get stolen. These are the popular Audi 80, Audi 100, Volkswagen Passat or Zhiguli. They even steal cars produced in the 80s”.
