Unusual optical phenomenon over Minsk (PHOTO)
Meteorologists claim that they have never seen light-pillars like this, while the scientists of Physics Institute say it's an ordinary optical phenomenon.
An unusual phenomenon could be observed this night in Minsk. A huge pillars of light went out of the buildings up into the sky. Some most impressionable people thought on the UFO... Even the state meteorological center' representatives were surprised by this phenomenon.
Liudmila Parashchuk, a head of the meteorological forecasts department of the Republican hydro-meteorological center:
“Unfortunately, I cannot explain this phenomenon. I have never come across anything like this from the meteorological point of view. We were really surprised when we saw this pillar of light yesterday”.
A Professor of the Physics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences Jauhen Talkachou explained this occurrence to Euroradio. He doesn't think it was an supernatural phenomenon.
Jauhen Talkachou: “This is an ordinary optical phenomenon. There is nothing special about it. It's the same when you narrow your eyes and look at a lamp in a misty weather - you will see a rich structure of rays, which allegedly surround the lamp. Probably, there were light sources in the building, and the frosty air around it. Frosty air is full with ice crystals, which disperse light as any other crystals do. Thus, such light pillars are just the result of certain physical conditions which were created around the building".
Besides, many other interesting occurrences can be observed in such frosty weather. For example, there were three suns in the sky instead of one this morning!
