Saakashvili thanks Belarus for not recognizing Abkhazia and South Ossetia
The Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili thanked the Belarusian vice Prime Minister Andrei Kabyakou for not recognizing “the separatist regions” of the country on January 14. BelaPAN informs about it referring to an information analytical portal “Georgia-Online”. It was claimed during a meeting with Kabyakou heading the Belarusian delegation at an energy conference in Batumi. Saakashvili claimed that he highly appreciated the policy of Belarus concerning Georgia and the fact that the majority of Belarusian deputies support the territorial integrity of Georgia and do not recognize the separatist regions despite of various kinds of pressure. The Georgian President stressed that the Belarusian position aroused respect in the Georgian population.
Let us remind you that the request of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to recognize their independence has been considered by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly since 2008. It is not excluded that the issue of recognition of the two Caucasian republics may be postponed till the spring session of the Belarusian Parliament that will start on April 2.
