S.Matskevіch: School reform also delays development of economy and culture
The new school reform will not only cause problems in the system of education, it will influence the economy too. Ed. D Svuatlana Matskevich claimed it in an interview with ERB. Let us remind you that the final decision about returning to the 11-forms system of education has been taken during a meeting organized by the Belarusian leader today. Procedures of the kind demand a lot of financial expenses from the technical and economic point of view, notes S.Matskevich. Meanwhile, the educational system has just started adapting to the 12-forms system and it is still suffering from “a fever” caused by some unreasoned details of the reform.
S.Matskevіch: If there is a rollback to the 11-forms system, it will give way to a procedure mishmash. It may lead to overexertion of school administrations.
The expert noted that the reform would cause a great loss of quality of education because the quality requirements would be lowered knowingly.
S.Matskevіch: A tendency to lower the standards of education can be observed everywhere and it is being announced by state structures. They say they do not need everyone to get higher education, etc. The low requirements to the process of education will result in a lower quality of education in general.
According to S.Matskevich, the new generation of Belarusians will not be able to join new European processes because it will be brought up on archaic Soviet rules. The expert notes that Soviet education was good for its epoch. However, modern integration processes and new technologies issue new challenges.
S.Matskevіch: Education has to take the dare and change its structure, preparation of teachers, curriculums and programmes… We are starting to delay the process artificially and we say: “Mom, give me birth back in the Soviet Union”, which means that we are delaying the development of the economy and culture of the whole country together with the education system.
