Štefan Füle: Belarus-EU relations cannot be unfrozen now
It cannot happen as there are political prisoners in Belarus.
European commissioner Štefan Füle told it to leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka.
Releasing political prisoners is the main goal of Brussels strategy, Lyabedzka told Radio Liberty. The second step should be free and fair elections.
European officials calmly accepted Uladzimir Makei’s statement about Belarus’ readiness to facilitate the visa regime with the EU. The Belarusian Minister for Foreign Affairs said it at the recent Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, Lyabedzka noted. According to Füle, EU suggested it in June 2011 and is waiting for real actions, not words.
