Students send appeal for meeting in protest against benefits cancellation
Representatives of Belarusian students have sent an appeal to Minsk city Executive committee asking for permission to organize a meeting in protest against the cancellation of benefits on May 20. They are going to organize it at Bangalor square. The head of the commission on the rights of students of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Tattiana Hatsura (she signed the appeal) informed about it. According to her, the action will not concern any political issues and its mottos will be “We do not want to be stowaways” and “We are against benefits cancellation!”.
A hare will be the action’s logotype – a symbol of stowaways. The steering committee includes five youth organizations and representatives of the majority of Minsk universities. Famous Belarusian musicians will be performing for the action’s participants.
According to Hatsura, the collected signatures will be sent to the speaker of the Belarusian Parliament Uladzimir Kanapleu and the President Alyaksandr Lukashenka next week.
