"Tell the Truth" urged to commemorate Bykau on Victory Day
The campaign “Tell the Truth” has urged to commemorate Vasil Bykau - a famous front-line writer – on the eve of the Victory Day. They are going to gather at Minsk Eastern cemetery at 11 a.m. on May 7. Vasil Bykau was buried there. The press secretary of the campaign Yuliya Rymasheuskaya has explained to ERB that the celebration of the Victory Day was too pompous and festive.
Rymasheuskaya: "However, in this case people’s values that make up the essence of “memory” are neglected. It concerns both words and actions. Vasil Bykau was a writer who wrote the truth about the war. Not many people said that truth in the past and not so many people do it now”.
According to the organizers, they have selected a work day to commemorate Bykau on purpose because many Minskers could go out of town on the weekend.
