Two Russian journalists get political asylum in USA
Two Russian journalists had to leave their country as a result of numerous threats and persecution.
For example, Fatima Tlisova, a regional reporter of the “Regnum” agency from Nalchik was beaten several times.
She started having problems after the article where she described power abuse of federals in Chechnya was printed in “Obshchaya Gazeta” in 2002.
Several days later two men caught her near her flat, dragged the woman out of the lobby and started beating her. Tlisava spent several days in the resuscitation department after that.
In 2005 the journalist was pushed into a car and taken to a forest where she was beaten and taunted.
A reporter from Radio “Liberty” in Russia Yurii Bagrov was also persecuted.
He wasn’t given a Russian passport after he had been accused of using false documents to receive Russian citizenship.
