Vadim Popov to prepare ground for a new speaker

Vadim Popov is elected as the chairman of the House of Representatives to prepare ground for a young speaker, political commentator Viktar Martsinovich suggests to the European Radio for Belarus. Viktar Martsinovich: "The choice has been made in support of a "technical" speaker. Obviously, we are observing the process of elite change. This appointment does not clearly fit into this process. Popov does not represent the young grouping within the Office of the President. Generally, we can see technical changes within the Belarusian authorties: the replacement of Konoplyov, a political speaker, with a technical figure. The purpose of the replacement is to clear space for a new political speaker in the new parliament. I think it will be a young speaker".

Previously, Vadim Popov served as the speaker of the parliament.
