Yarmoshyna: Central Election Commission ready for run-off at presidential elections
Lidziya Yarmoshyna has confessed in an interview with ERB that she will be bitterly disappointed if the elections are not recognized in the world. The Central Election Commission is ready for the second voting at the presidential elections. The head of the CEC Lidziya Yarmoshyna has informed ERB that the money needed for it has already been allocated.
Lidziya Yarmoshyna: “We always include expenses on a run-off in our plan. We need nothing else! The second voting does not need any preliminary voting, no more money is allocated for the pre-election campaign: candidates do not get anything. We only have to pay members of the commissions that will work on that day and we need money to print voting papers. So it is technically easy and we always plan it”.
According to her, about 37 billion rubles is allocated for two rounds of the presidential elections. It is about $1.5 paid by every elector.
Meanwhile, Lidziya Yarmoshyna confessed that she would not be glad if there was a run-off.
Lidziya Yarmoshyna: “I cannot say that I will be glad in that case. How can one be glad to have a second round of intense work? Furthermore, a run-off aggravates political controversies in the society. So, a run-off is not a positive thing. But it is guaranteed not even by the law, but by the Constitution”.
The head of the CEC hopes very much that the results of the presidential elections will be recognized by the international community.
Lidziya Yarmoshyna: “My attitude to the recognition is very serious. Politics is closely connected with economy. Of cause, the most important thing is that the elections should be recognized in the country as it affects the stability of the society. International recognition is also very important. The Central Election Commission always works in order to get a positive result. I will not be ranting and raving if they are not recognized. But I will be bitterly disappointed and it will be a traumatic event for me”.
According to Yarmoshyna, not more than four candidates managed to get the necessary 100 thousand signatures for presidential elections in the past. She does not expect any surprises this year either.
Let us remind you that the presidential elections have to take place by February 7, 2001. The new state leader may be elected this year. A special session of the House of Representatives is appointed for September 7. The date of the elections may be announced there.
