48% of Belarus population called Belarusian a native tounge in 2017

The Information and Analytical Center under the Presidential Administration have released the results of the 2017 public opinion poll which focused the questions related to the native language. 48% of the country's population called Belarusian as their native tongue, 43% - Russian, and 6% - both Belarusian and Russian. A half of the those polled said the use of the Belarusian language should be expanded. 14% were against this idea, reports nn.by.
In the fall of 2019, Belarus will have the next census, which can help to understand among other issues, the situation with the attitude of Belarusians towards their native language.
