Crimea referendum: 96.77% voted for joining Russia
The head of the referendum commission of the Supreme Crimean Council Mikhail Malyshev has announced the referendum results.
2.51% of voters said they wanted Crimea to remian in Ukraine and to return to the 1992 Constitution. 0.72% of ballot papers were nullified.
100% of ballot appears have been counted. The information does not include Sevastopol, because it is a separate region. According to the official statistics, 81.36% of inhabitants of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea took part in the referendum, RBK reports.
The Crimean Supreme Council will gather at 11 a.m. FET today. Its members will compose an official appeal for joining Russia.
The Ukrainian, U.S. and EU authorities have not recognized the referendum results.
