Belarus refuses to sign final resolution of EaP summit
The reason for it is the phrase about ‘the illegal annexation’ of Crimea. Armenia has also refused to sign the document.
Belarus and Armenia have refused to sign the final declaration of the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga due to the words about ‘the illegal annexation’ of Crimea, REUTERS refers to diplomatic sources. A new edition of the document representing the diffrent positions of the EU and its partners is likely to appear, the sources report.
The text will say that the European Union condemns the situation in Crimea. The positions of the EaP member states pronounced during the voting in the UN in March 2014 will be reflected there. Armenia and Belarus took Moscow’s side back then, RIA Novosti reports.
The Eastern Partnership is a project of the EU’s cooperation with European and trans-Caucasian post-Soviet Republics. Three of its members (Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova) signed an association agreement with the EU in 2014. The fourth EaP summit will be held in Riga. The first meeting was organized in Prague in 2009.
Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei will represent Belarus at the summit in Riga.
