Kuryan: I did not see anything strange but the concert was shortened
Dzyanis Kuryan, the presenter of the concert “We are Belarusians” that took place in Minsk on July 3 says that he did not know anything about the explosion: Kuryan: I saw the things everyone saw: ambulances and cars patrolling there. I did not see anything strange. I tried to ask the police what was going on but they did not reply. You know, the programme of the concert was shortened because… it was like that… The concert was supposed to last several hours longer.
The presenter does not know why the concert was not stopped. He added that artists reacted to the idea of shortening the concert in a normal way because they were also people like everyone else:
Kuryan: All of the artists were adequate. You know, the issue concerned people and their lives. Besides being presenters, workers and singers, we are all humans.
A number of Belarusian bands did not have an opportunity to perform but Kuryan did not remember their names. The audience was not informed about the shortening of the concert because
Kuryan: Why should it be announced? It was simply decided. The concert was over and that was it.
Informing the public about the accident was beyond the presenter’s competence. Dzyanis Kuryan stresses that he got to know about the explosion while watching a news programme:
Kuryan: I saw that something has happened but I only got to know what it was while watching a news programme at 7 a.m. today.
