Lidziya Yarmoshyna: Presidential campaign to start in August 2015
CEC chairwoman Lidziya Yarmoshyna says the next presidential election campaign will kick off in August 2015.
"August 2015 is the start of the presidential campaign. The election itself should take place no later than November 20, 2015" BELTA quotes Central Election Commission chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna as saying.
According to the legislation, the presidential elections should be held no later than two months, and the electoral campaign should start no later than 5 months before expiration of duties of the acting president. Yarmoshyna reminded that Alyaksandr Lukashenka's inauguration had taken place on January 20, 2011. According to her, his duties expire on January 20, 2016.
Besides, the House of Representatives adopted amendments to some Belarusian laws on elections and referendums on November 13. According to the amendments, campaigning for boycott of the elections will now be prohibited.
