Local elections date announced
The elections will be held on March 23, 2014. The date was approved by Alyaksandr Lukashenka after his meeting with CEC chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna
Election campaigns should demonstrate real democracy, the Belarusian President claimed at the meeting.
Alyaksandr Lukashenka: "We should adopt a serious approach to this stage of development of our state. The situation is complicated and our so-called alternative politicians lay a lot of hopes on this stage. They expect local elections to become some beginning and development and they hope that the so-called democracy will reach its peak during the presidential election which will end with a parliamentary election. We should prepare for this period. It would be good if the elections could demonstrate real democracy.”
Lidziya Yarmoshyna will be responsible for the creation of future election campaigns, Lukashenka noted.
