Exhibition with meat jelly Lenin’s head shut down in Viciebsk
Goodbye, Lenin! Photo: Anastasiya Hancharova.
The exhibition Other Generation Means Other Space. Women's Time was supposed to remain open in Viciebck on November 1-12. However, it was suddenly closed.
Of course it could not have happened only because one of exhibits was a meat jelly Lenin’s head decorated with rags, could it? It was ‘planned’.
The author of the installation, Viciebsk artist Anastasiya Hancharova is refuting the rumours that the meat jelly head created with the assistance of artist Pavel Yurkou had any political implication.
"It is bad when the public cannot understand irony,” Hancharova commented on the closing of the exhibition. “It was not a political action; it was a post-modernist concept. The decision to remove the exhibit was caused by someone’s fear.”
Lenin’s head will be removed together with the other 20 exhibits created by 9 authors.
"The artifact is eatable but has a very disgusting taste: a mixture of chilly, fat, jelly and technical materials. Besides, it shakes in a funny way when you touch it with your finger," Hancharova commented on the installation.
A knife was placed near the jelly head: people could taste Lenin. Visitors did not like the taste: “Vladimir Lenin is totally not tasty just like his ideas, which are unfortunately still alive up to now.”
The authors of the exhibit decided to poke the knife into Lenin’s head later.
It seems that somebody did not like the idea on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution ...
