Over the past four years, more than 40,000 video cameras have been installed on the streets of Belarusian cities. They are combined into a "public security monitoring system".

The notorious system allows the authorities to continue the crackdown by identifying people who participated in the protests in 2020. But the existence of so many video cameras is justified by other reasons.

According to Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou, they allow to record violations of traffic rules. For example, to identify drivers who do not have the right to drive. The system is also being tested to record cases of people running red lights.
