Belarusian National Congress participants to stand trial for unauthorized rally
Participants of constituent assembly of Belarusian National Congress will stand trial in Minsk on Tuesday, June 24. The congress was held in Yanka Kupala Park on May 15 because the organizing committee had not been allowed to rent any room in Minsk. All the trials will start at 9 a.m., BelaPAN reports.
First leader of independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich, activist Yury Lukashevich (Central District Court), leader of the movement For Statehood and Independence Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu (Lenin District Court), activist of the campaign European Belarus Maksim Vinyarski (Frunze District Court) will stand trial for participation in an unauthorized action.
Reports for participation in the congress were drawn up against more than 20 people, human rights defenders say.
