Political prisoner Mikola Statkevich to stand another trial
The colony administration reckons Statkevich 'is not improving his behavior' and is set to be sent back to prison.
Belarusian political prisoner Mikola Statkevich is about to stand another trial, his wife Maryna Adamovich wrote on Facebook:
"The colony administration has decided that he ‘is not improving’ and is going ‘to continue his criminal way of life’ and that it is impossible to keep him in their wonderful institution.”
A Shklou colony commission decided to send Statkevich back to prison until the end of his term on April 9, Maryna Adamovcih said. That is why Statkevich will have to stand another trial.
Mikola Statkevich is 58 years old. He is a colonel in the reserve, ex-head of the Association of Belarusian Military Men and the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada). He was a presidential candidate in 2010. Detained on December 19, 2010 after an action against rigged elections, he was accused of organizing mass riots and participating in them. Statkevich was imprisoned for six years in a top-security colony on May 26, 2011. Amnesty International announced Mikola Statkevich a prisoner of conscience. He has already been labeled a repeated infringer in Shklou colony before. He was sent to Mahilyou prison after a trial back then.
Everything is repeating now, Mikola Statkevich has been pronounced 13 warnings, Maryna Adamovich wrote. 10 of them are for ‘refusing to work’.
