Ecologists protesting against NPP construction detained in Minsk
Russian nuclear physicist Andrei Azharovski is among them.
Coordinator of Belarusian anti-nuclear campaign Tatstsyana Novikava has been detained together with Azharovski. They had been going to present an appeal not to sign the general NPP construction contact to the Russian Embassy at 12 p.m., informs BelaPAN.
Then it became known that ecologists Iryna Suhiy and Mihail Matskevich had also been captured in Minsk. Suhiy tried to bring the appeal to the Russian Embassy and Matskevich was on his way to the police office to find out what had happened to Novikava and Azharouski.
Let us remind you that the general NPP construction contract will be signed after the meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Union State. It will be done in the presence of Belarusian and Russian PMs Mihail Myasnikovich and Dmitry Medvedev.
The document will denote the obligations and responsibility of the sides, the terms of realization of the project and its approximate cost. According to RIA "Novosti", the draft of the general contract says that the first power unit of Astravets NPP should be launched in November 2018 and the second one - in July 2020.
