Not enough tinned meat for babies in Belarus
Belarusian tinned meat for babies is disappearing from shops.
It is not clear where Belarusian meat is now. Volha Masalovich, a specialist of the distribution department of Orsha meat-packing plant – the only producer of such food in Belarus – explains the reason for the problem.
“The Ministry of Trade has sent us an order to provide tinned food for free nutrition programmes for children under 2 years old. We supplied tinned food for them in the first place”.
The free food provided by the Ministry of Trade is given to parents from low-income families. All the rest have to buy foreign tinned food. Most of the food is imported from Russia and costs twice or thrice more.
The capital shops that were lucky to get some products of Orsha meat-packing plant complain about poor choice.
“There have been no supplies for about two weeks. They are available now but not to the full extent, There is “Beef” and “Beef and potato mash”. The choice is poor. There used to be up to twenty types”.
As Euroradio has found out, the lack of Orsha tinned food is not only caused by social supplies. The meat-packing plant producing tinned food for babies… lacks meat.
“The enterprise lacks raw stuff. We need picked meat for baby food. Maybe it is connected with the fact that the population does not sell meat to the state. The problem has appeared recently. We used to have enough baby food and all the rest”.
Meat is likely to return to our country in the form of Russian tinned meat for babies.
