PACE members demand new election in Belarus

The demand to conduct a new presidential election in Belarus has been included into the agenda of the PACE session. Pieter Omtzigt, a Dutch PACE member of the Christian Democracy, has informed Euroradio about this. The 20 signatures necessary for this have already been collected.

The PACE members who represent different countries condemn the fraud elections, the arrests following the fraud elections and all other signs of lack of respect for human rights by the Belarusian authorities

In their appeal they urge all the countries-members of PACE to condemn the violence after the elections and also to label the elections as fraud, not to recognise the results and ask for new elections in Belarus. Apart from this, they suggest to install a list of Belarusian people who are responsible for the elections and the lack of respect for human rights.

The deputies also appeal to install smart economic sanctions to the Belarusian regime and the Belarusian country as long as it does not respect human rights. New election is the basis to be fulfilled by Belarus before sanctions can be ended, they think.
