Shchotkina, Myasnikovich and Arda elected members of Council of Republic
Members of the Council of the Republic were elected in Belarus on September 13. Eight people were elected by regional councils and Minsk City Executive Committee for every province and Minsk. Another eight members were appointed by the President. There are 64 senators in the Council of the Republic.
For instance, Minister of Labour and Social Protection Mariana Shchotkina, head of the Council of the Republic Mihail Myasnikovich, head of the Federation of Trade Unions Mihail Arda and Belarusian Ambassador to Japan Syarhei Rahmanau have been chosen in Minsk. First secretary of the BRSM Andrei Belyakou will represent Homel Province in the Council of the Republic.
