UN: Human rights situation in Belarus is alarming (video)
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus Miklós Haraszti has made the report.
UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus Miklós Haraszti made a report at the 29th session of the UN Human Rights Council. There are no traces of improvement of the human rights situation in Belarus, he noted. The Belarusian authorities have not corrected any of the deep and systematic violations and have not created conditions for free and fair elections, Haraszti said.
The Special Rapporteur claimed that the freedom of expression and assembly and well as the right to chose your placement are threatened in our country, spring96.org reports. The situation before the presidential lection is ‘alarming’, Miklós Haraszti believes. He also mentioned positive changes like the decrease in the number of political prisoners.
The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus ‘discredits the very idea of democracy and human rights’, official representative of Belarus Mihaial Hvastou claimed. He called the report ‘pseudo-true’ and urged to unseat Haraszti.
