Anatol Lyabedzka to not withdraw from election in favor of Statkevich
The politician believes such move to be "ineffective"
"In terms of efficiency, the withdrawal of the democratic candidates from the election in favor of the nomination of Mikalai Statkevich is ineffective," BelaPAN quoted the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka.
On June 29, the ex-presidential candidate, leader of the movement For Statehood and Independence of Belarus Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu offered to all potential opposition candidates to withdraw from the election prior to the registration of nominating groups and support the nomination of Mikalai Statkevich as single candidate from the opposition. Nyaklyayeu considers this decision "the only true one both in terms of policy and in terms of morality."
However, the proposal of Mr Nyaklyayeu did not find understanding among the potential candidates. At first it was rejected by Tatstsiana Karatkevich and then Syarhei Kalyakin.
